Avelume Notes

Write, annotate and calculate without making AI mandatory

Get it from the official store ↗

Avelume Notes combines handwriting, text, images and PDF annotation. It suits people who want ordinary notebook tools with optional local AI rather than an assistant required for every action.

Avelume's most important distinction is between ordinary notebook work and optional AI assistance. Writing, drawing, annotating and calculating do not inherently require a model. That makes the app relevant to somebody who wants a mixed-content notebook but does not want every operation turned into an online assistant request. The right starting point is the material to keep and edit, then whether an optional model adds something useful to that existing workflow.

Based on official store information. We have not tested this app hands-on.

What it does

The listing describes folders, search, calculations, unit conversions and graphs. AI note changes show a preview and require confirmation; optional models must be downloaded separately.

The listing describes combining handwriting, text boxes, images and shapes, with PDF import for annotation. Organisational views include folders, recent items, favourites and unfiled notes. Begin with a short representative page and identify where it belongs before building a large library. Being able to make an attractive page is separate from finding it again later.

Calculation, unit conversion and function plotting are described as regular tools, not tasks that need AI. Graphs can switch between angular conventions, adjust a viewing range and be inserted into a page for annotation. This gives the user something concrete to check: does the graph use the intended settings, and does the surrounding note explain its assumptions? We have not verified the mathematical implementation.

The optional assistant can provide guidance and supported actions. The developer describes an explicit download for local text questions and a separate optional vision model. AI changes show a preview and require confirmation. Read that preview as a proposed edit, not as a recommendation that must be accepted. The listing says unavailable AI does not fall back to a cloud model and that AI can be disabled; we have not audited those behaviours.

Before you install

Free note creation counts recoverable notes in Recently Deleted too. Library backups exclude AI chats and models, so understand what a backup actually contains.

Free creation counts ordinary notes still recoverable in Recently Deleted. Moving one there does not immediately release a new-note slot, a distinction worth knowing before reorganising a small library. Existing editing and several other capabilities remain available separately from Pro's creation limit. Do not confuse permission to create more notes with access to local models.

Backup coverage also needs careful reading. The developer says library backups exclude AI conversations, models, settings and edit recovery points. A library backup is therefore not a complete image of every part of the app's state. Keep an independent copy of important material and understand the difference between a reading PDF and an editable Avelume file. We have not tested export, merge-restore or recovery.

The developer describes recent conversations being stored locally and relevant excerpts being used for recall. That is not the same as including every conversation in each answer or placing chat history inside a library backup. Decide what needs retaining and which deletion action affects which material. Voice input also depends on device resources and permissions, while keyboard entry remains available. These distinctions help a user plan a practical setup without assuming that all AI, backup and input functions share one requirement. The important question is what still works when a particular optional component is unavailable.

Price and access

The free limit is five ordinary notes. Pro subscriptions remove that creation limit; local model downloads and existing editing do not require Pro.

The free allocation allows five ordinary notes, with the built-in welcome example excluded from that quota. Pro's monthly and yearly subscriptions remove the creation limit; the listing says they provide the same access and no free trial. Local model download is described as available without Pro, but it needs storage and suitable device resources. The optional text model is approximately 1.28 GB, with a separate vision download around 668 MB. Check current pricing and requirements before subscribing or downloading.

Our take

The separation between notebook work and optional AI is useful. We have not tested model answers, recovery or export fidelity.

Avelume is most interesting when the notebook remains useful even with the assistant switched off. The separation lets a user evaluate handwriting, organisation and calculation on their own merits, then decide whether local questions or suggested actions are worth the additional setup.

We have not tested model accuracy or notebook reliability. Use the isolated practice library described by the developer, try a representative import and export, and check the proposed edit before confirming it. A fluent answer is not proof of a correct calculation or a sound note change. The strongest workflow keeps the source material, the ordinary tools and the optional assistance understandable as separate parts.

The practice area is particularly useful for separating exploration from personal material. Try a proposed assistant action there before using it on a valued notebook, and read what confirmation actually authorises.
