Our editorial approach

The word “review” should tell you something about the evidence behind an article. We distinguish a sourced introduction from a hands-on assessment, and we make uncertainty visible.

First looks and hands-on reviews

A First look uses official store listings, developer documentation and supplied screenshots to explain an app. It does not mean we have installed it. A hands-on review describes the testing actually performed, including devices, versions and duration when those details are available. Supplied user experiences are attributed rather than presented as our own tests.

What an article examines

We explain the main task an app performs, its intended audience, important features, supported platforms, pricing and subscription terms. We also look for account requirements, regional restrictions, in-app purchases and meaningful limitations. Missing information is identified as unconfirmed rather than filled in with a guess.

Sources, screenshots and downloads

We separate developer claims from direct observations. Screenshots illustrate the interface; they cannot establish reliability, battery performance, security or long-term usefulness. Supplied screenshots keep their content and proportions, with their source identified where relevant. Download buttons lead to the official store or developer destination, not a hosted copy of the app.

Verdicts and ratings

Must install means a strong recommendation supported by the available testing; Worth a try means a useful option with relevant trade-offs; Skip means a problem or limitation outweighs the benefit. We reserve these verdicts for documented hands-on assessments. A store’s star rating is a separate measure, not our score, and should carry a source when quoted.

AI assistance and editorial boundaries

AI assists research, writing and translation. It does not independently experience an app, and it must not be used to invent testing, quotations or measurements. We do not treat generated text or a developer’s marketing claim as verification. Sponsorship does not determine an editorial verdict.

Corrections and changing apps

Apps change after publication. Prices, features and availability should be checked at the official destination before downloading. Substantive corrections or changes to a verdict should be explained with an explanatory update. To report an error, email the article URL, the disputed detail and supporting evidence to [email protected].
