Playova is an IPTV client for macOS. Add your own authorised Xtream Codes account or M3U playlist, then browse what that provider makes available.
A player and a television service are different products. Playova supplies the Mac interface for a source the user adds; it does not include the channel rights or a content catalogue of its own. That is the most important point before comparing it with a streaming subscription. The intended audience is somebody who already has an authorised compatible source and wants to manage that viewing on macOS.

What it does
The listing describes a programme guide, rewind, catch-up, recording and supported downloads. Separate profiles and viewing preferences help organise access.
The listing describes adding an Xtream Codes account or an M3U playlist, then browsing channels, films and shows. Programme information, search, favourites and a watchlist can help navigate that source. Their usefulness depends on what the provider actually supplies. An imported list alone does not establish that guide data or a particular category is complete.
Live rewind and catch-up are also different. The developer describes rewind within the stream stored on the computer, while catch-up depends on a provider archive. One cannot be assumed to replace the other. The amount of live material available to move through is affected by settings and allocated storage, so understand the configured window before treating it as a permanent recording.
Recording and supported downloads add further workflows. The description explicitly says scheduled recording requires the computer to remain on with Playova running. Plan around that condition instead of expecting a task set in the interface to run on a sleeping or shut-down Mac. Downloads likewise depend on the source; a download control is not a promise that every programme can be kept offline.
Before you install
The app does not supply channels. Guide data, archives and downloads depend on the source, and scheduled recordings require the Mac to stay on with Playova running.
Check the source's authorisation and terms before importing it. A player accepting credentials does not establish that the provider is legitimate or that every use, recording or download is permitted. This article does not assess any particular content service.
Profiles, PIN controls, language preferences and resumed playback can make a shared setup easier to organise. They also need to be checked with the actual account and source. We have not tested playback quality, guide accuracy, recordings, downloads or cross-device state. Use a small representative session before relying on the setup for a programme that matters. Keep the player's advertised features distinct from what the specific provider makes possible.
For a shared household setup, decide which profile should hold favourites and progress before comparing behaviour on another device. The listing describes cross-device continuation with Plus using the same source and profile, not an unrestricted transfer between unrelated services. Check subtitles and audio on the actual programme rather than assuming every entry offers the same tracks. Keep enough storage available for the intended local stream window or recording. These are setup questions to verify during the trial, not evidence that we have measured reliability or established compatibility with a particular provider.
Price and access
A fourteen-day trial starts after adding a source. Basic and Plus are paid plans with different device and renewal terms.
The listing describes a fourteen-day trial beginning when the user adds a source. After that, a paid plan is required to continue viewing from it. Basic covers one device for one year and is described as not renewing automatically. Plus covers up to five devices and viewing-progress synchronisation through an annually renewing subscription. Current prices are shown at purchase, and an account is required to buy. The provider's content fee remains a separate cost.
Our take
It looks like a focused client for an existing subscription. We have not tested sources, playback, recordings or provider compatibility.
Playova's practical value depends on the combination of client, computer and source. A good fit would make an existing authorised service easier to navigate and use without obscuring which features depend on it. It is not a route to free channels merely because the client can be downloaded without payment.
We have not tested the app. Use the trial to check the actual requirements, including guide coverage, a representative playback session and whether recording needs match the Mac's availability. Compare the complete cost and renewal arrangements before continuing. If a source lacks an advertised capability, changing the player setting cannot necessarily create the missing provider service.
The distinction between account and source matters when comparing plans. A Playova account is used for purchasing and the multi-device workflow described by the developer, while the television provider supplies its own access. Keep those identities and cancellation arrangements clear. Removing a client or ending its plan should not be assumed to cancel a separate content subscription automatically. We have not tested either purchase or cancellation process.
