My Aquarium – Water Log is a freshwater fishkeeper's notebook, combining tank details, readings, livestock and reference information. Its official description emphasises no required account or internet connection for the core app. This first look is based on the store listing, not a test of species identification, parameter calculations or aquarium outcomes.
The useful audience is someone who wants to connect observations over time rather than keep isolated notes. A temperature reading is more meaningful when it can be compared with earlier readings, tank changes and the animals present. The app provides an organisational framework; it is not a sensor, a replacement for reliable testing or a guarantee that a particular tank is suitable.
Based on official store information. We have not tested this app hands-on.
What it does
Tanks can have volume, dimensions, setup information and photographs, with a chosen cover. Stock can come from the catalogue or custom entries with quantities. Water readings include temperature, pH, carbonate and general hardness, nitrite and nitrate. Lighting records can include power, duration, lamp type and certain LED settings, giving context beyond a list of chemical values.
Charts cover several timescales, with a target range marked. The developer says recommended values are calculated from the recorded stock and describes compatibility warnings involving parameters, tank size, predators, group size and listed species restrictions. Those are prompts to investigate, not independently validated husbandry instructions. Accurate stock identification and complete entries remain essential inputs.
The catalogue covers fish, plants and other freshwater organisms, with parameters, size, temperament and difficulty information. It includes legal-status references to EU and Polish invasive-species lists. A beta photo feature suggests similar catalogue species using an on-phone neural network. The description also offers an optional route to send a photo to an AI assistant of the user's choice, which is a different information-sharing decision from local identification.
Before you install
Choose a consistent recording method before interpreting a trend. A chart can make values easy to compare, but different test methods, units or recording mistakes can create a misleading pattern. Keep enough context to understand the reading and any tank change. We have not tested the app's calculation rules, unit handling or the source and accuracy of its catalogue.
Photo identification deserves particular caution because similar-looking organisms can have different needs. Treat a beta match as a lead, not a settled identification. Compare reliable species references and obtain knowledgeable help when uncertain, especially before buying, combining or moving animals. Several pictures may improve the app's stated matching process, but they do not turn it into a guarantee.
Compatibility warnings cannot capture every relevant condition. Water quality, maturity of the tank, behaviour and practical care all matter beyond a simple parameter overlap. Likewise, legal status depends on jurisdiction and the current rules. A catalogue reference to EU or Polish lists does not establish what is allowed everywhere or remain a substitute for checking the relevant authority.
A photograph can document appearance without proving the cause of a change. Pair it with a short observation and the relevant reading rather than trying to make the image answer every question. Over time, that context may make your own records easier to interpret.
For backups, verify that a saved file can be found and understood before the phone becomes unavailable. Local operation is convenient, but it makes a deliberate recovery routine important. Keep an independent copy in an appropriate private location and preserve older records before experimenting with an import. A recovery plan should include the recorded tank details and observations, not only the latest number shown on a dashboard.
Price and access
The developer describes the app as free for private use. Check the current official store page for access terms and compatible devices. Polish and English interfaces, colour themes, on-device backup and file export or import are described. Do not infer a commercial-use licence or additional interface languages from the availability of this article in several languages.
The listing states that data stays on the phone without an account or ads. The optional external AI action must be considered separately because choosing to send a photo involves another service. Review the selected provider and the picture's contents before sharing it. We have not audited the app or any third party's privacy practices.
Our take
My Aquarium's clearest contribution is to bring a tank's recorded conditions, stock and observations into one place. That can support a more thoughtful conversation about changes over time than scattered photographs and handwritten numbers. The catalogue and warnings are most useful when they encourage checking rather than create unwarranted certainty.
We have not tested data integrity, recognition accuracy, accessibility or recommendations. Our take is to begin with one well-understood tank, record a few readings and inspect an exported backup. Use identification and compatibility suggestions as starting points for further research. A notebook earns trust by preserving clear observations and their context, while care decisions still need reliable evidence about the actual animals and conditions.
