HeyKeru is a course platform for students and instructors whose institution or course already participates. Its store description combines materials, activities, attendance, released grades and messages, with an assistant called Keru that answers from course material. That makes it different from a general notebook anyone can turn into a complete learning-management system. This first look is based on the official listing and does not claim that we have tested it inside a university.
The access condition should come first. If your course uses HeyKeru, the developer says to sign in with your university account. If it does not, the presence of an app in the store is not evidence that your classes, grades or timetable will appear. Confirm the arrangement with the course rather than creating expectations around a download alone.

What it does
For students, the description lists a view of classes and due work across courses. Materials are organised by topic, and activities can be opened and submitted from the phone. Released grades appear when the instructor makes them available. Those stages are related but separate: receiving a file, submitting work and seeing a result do not necessarily happen through the same action.
Attendance is described through scanning an instructor's QR code. Messages can connect students, classmates and instructors, with support for photos, files and voice messages. Notifications cover new communications and announcements. A useful course workflow would make clear which channel carries an instruction and where the resulting action must be completed.
Instructors can display the attendance code or mark students, see activity submissions and released results, and answer course messages. Keru is described as working from the material in a course. That bounded source is a useful proposition, but it does not establish that every answer is complete or correct. Treat a generated explanation as a route back to the relevant material, not as a new authority that overrides the instructor's requirements.
Before you install
A learning platform's usefulness depends on the course configuration and the habits of the people using it. Before relying on a single dashboard, establish where official deadlines, announcements and submission instructions are published. If the instructor uses another channel for exceptions, an apparently complete overview can still miss an important change.
For a small evaluation, open a harmless piece of course material, inspect an activity's requirements and understand what counts as a successful submission. Keep any confirmation that the institution provides. Uploading a file and receiving an acknowledgement are not necessarily the same step, particularly when the network is unreliable. We have not tested interrupted uploads or the platform's recovery behaviour.
Course communication also contains personal information. Use the intended account, check the recipient before sending a message or attachment, and do not treat a classroom group as a private conversation with an instructor. For QR attendance, follow the course's actual process rather than assuming that scanning any displayed code completes every participation requirement. These are practical boundaries for an institutional tool, not claims that the app has a particular fault.
When asking an assistant about a course, keep the question specific enough to check. Asking where an idea appears in the material can be easier to verify than accepting a broad answer about what the whole topic means. If the answer conflicts with an instructor's published requirement, return to that requirement and ask the instructor for clarification.
For group work, decide which conversation is the working discussion and which record represents the final submission. A file shared with classmates is not necessarily a file handed in for assessment. Clear naming and an agreed submission owner can prevent that distinction being lost inside an otherwise convenient message thread.
Price and access
The linked App Store download is free. Access to a participating course and the university account is a separate requirement. The retained description does not establish the institution's commercial arrangement or promise that an independent user can create a fully working course without additional terms.
Students should confirm the official access route with their course. Instructors evaluating adoption should examine the institutional requirements and support arrangement as well as the mobile interface. A free app price is not a complete statement of the cost or responsibility of operating a course platform.
Our take
HeyKeru looks most useful when it reduces the distance between a course instruction and the material or action needed to follow it. Topic-based materials, submissions, attendance and messages can reinforce one another if they are kept current by the course. The assistant is an optional part of that understanding, not proof that learning has become automatic.
We have not tested account access, notifications, submission reliability or Keru's responses. Our take is to judge it within one real participating course, using the institution's own guidance. A successful sign-in is only the start; the meaningful result is knowing what to study, what to submit and which confirmation shows that the required work reached the right place.
