Alawako - Loud alarm clock

Add a wake-up task before silencing an alarm

Get it from the official store ↗

Alawako is an alarm app for people who dismiss a sound while half asleep. Its description asks you to complete a short activity before the alarm becomes quiet.

An alarm is only useful if its behaviour is understood before it is needed. Alawako adds a task between hearing a sound and dismissing it, aiming to make a half-asleep response less automatic. That may interest someone who repeatedly turns off a simple alarm without fully waking. The appropriate evaluation is still practical reliability on the actual device, settings and routine, not the assumption that a more demanding dismissal guarantees a successful morning.

Based on official store information. We have not tested this app hands-on.

What it does

The listing describes number, memory and movement challenges, snooze limits and a later wake-up check. Some alarm behaviour relies on supported Apple system features.

The listing describes several kinds of wake-up activity, including ordered numbers, memory tasks, motion, steps, scanning a chosen code and photographing a selected place. Those ask for different abilities and surroundings. Choose an activity that is realistically and safely available at the intended time rather than selecting the hardest option as a test of determination.

Snooze limits and a later wake-up check are separate parts of the described loop. A dismissal task can interrupt the immediate habit of turning an alarm off, while a follow-up check tries to establish that the person remained awake. The developer also describes ringing again when an activity is abandoned. We have not tested the timing or conditions, so those claims should be checked with a short test before reliance.

The source says some alarm delivery uses supported Apple system capabilities, alongside permissions and device requirements. A feature name alone does not settle how every system version, Focus setting or hardware arrangement behaves. Read the current compatibility and permission information and inspect the actual test result. Do not infer that an installed app has all permissions necessary for every advertised path.

Before you install

No alarm app should be assumed dependable on every device and setting. Check permissions and run a test before relying on it for an important morning.

Physical activities require a suitable environment. A code placed far from bed, a walking target or a shake task may be inconvenient or inappropriate for some users. Consider mobility, other people and the surroundings before making such a task part of waking. A safer simple option may be a better fit than one that creates friction without serving the routine.

The developer describes other features such as naps, widgets, custom sounds and a bedside display. These are conveniences, not evidence about treatment of a sleep problem. We have not measured wake-up outcomes, alarm reliability or behaviour after an update. Maintain another alarm while evaluating the app and seek appropriate advice where persistent sleep difficulty is the underlying concern.

Check what the selected activity needs while fully awake. If it refers to a physical location or image, ensure that the target remains accessible and unambiguous in the actual lighting. A bedside sunrise display, which the developer describes as keeping the app open, has a different requirement from a system alarm. Keep those behaviours separate when planning the phone's overnight state. The number of advertised activities is useful choice, but it does not establish that each is appropriate for every person, and this article does not verify a medical or behavioural outcome.

Price and access

Core alarms and four activities are free. Pro adds activities and options through subscriptions or a lifetime purchase.

The listed free offering includes core alarms and four wake-up activities with some difficulty choices. Pro adds further activities and options through recurring plans or a one-time lifetime purchase. Check which plan and renewal interval is actually offered in the regional store. Paying for more activities should be a response to a useful requirement, not an assumption that a premium option makes delivery dependable on every device.

Our take

The interaction requirement is its main distinction. We have not tested alarm delivery, silent-mode behaviour or wake-up outcomes.

The clear idea behind Alawako is to make dismissal more deliberate. That can be an interesting interaction design choice for a person who already recognises their particular snooze habit. It is not a guarantee that every cause of oversleeping has been addressed.

We have not tested it. Choose an ordinary day, confirm permissions and use the app's described test path before depending on a consequential alarm. Inspect not just whether a sound starts but whether the dismissal and follow-up are understandable. A successful setup is one that fits the person and environment, with a recovery option, rather than a collection of challenges that becomes difficult to manage when tired.

A waking routine also includes what happens after the sound ends. Keep the chosen task proportionate and understand the later check rather than assuming that completing one puzzle establishes wakefulness for the rest of the morning. If a setting is confusing during setup, resolve it before leaving the phone unattended overnight.
